Change the Thumbnail Image Settings (Windows XP) Category: Home > Windows > Appearance
These settings control the format of the saved thumbnail images, including the image size and quality. Open your registry and find the key below. Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value, called "ThumbnailSize" and set it to the size of the image in pixels. The default is 96. Create another new DWORD value, or modify the existing value, called "ThumbnailQuality" and set a number that represents the quality percentage between 50% and 100%, the higher quality the larger the file. The default is 90. Restart Windows for the changes to take effect.
